be professional

Professionalism isn't just taught—it is practiced, recognized, and celebrated every day. Success beyond high school requires more than academic knowledge; it demands personal responsibility, effective communication, accountability, and pride in one's work.

To ensure students are prepared for college, careers, and life, IHS has centered its school culture around the 3 C’s of Professionalism: Conduct, Communication, and Creation.

The 3 C’s of Professionalism

1. Conduct – How You Show Up

Professional conduct is about presence, preparation, and accountability. IHS students demonstrate strong conduct by:

  • Arriving ready to engage and using their time with clear purpose.

  • Taking ownership of their choices, responsibilities, and commitments.

  • Showing respect for peers, staff, physical spaces, equipment, and learning resources.

  • Responding constructively to feedback and redirection, while helping create an environment where everyone can thrive.

2. Communication – How You Interact

Effective communication builds strong relationships and fosters collaboration. IHS students practice professional communication by:

  • Speaking and writing with respect, maintaining appropriate language, tone, and body language.

  • Listening actively to understand others rather than simply waiting to respond.

  • Advocating for themselves by asking questions and communicating proactively when plans change or help is needed.

  • Tailoring their message respectfully for their audience across both in-person and digital platforms.

3. Creation – What You Put Into the World

Creation reflects pride in personal effort, creativity, and continuous growth. IHS students practice professional creation by:

  • Producing accurate, thoughtful, and complete work that they are proud to sign their name to.

  • Prioritizing quality and revision over settling for "good enough".

  • Utilizing technology, digital tools, and artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly while giving proper credit to others.

  • Demonstrating genuine learning, critical thinking, and individual progress in every project.

Practiced, Recognized, and Celebrated

Rather than treating professionalism as a simple list of rules, IHS actively recognizes students who bring these habits to life through several key initiatives:

  • 🌟 The C Card: Teachers recognize students demonstrating any of the 3 C’s with official C Cards and celebratory email updates sent directly to families.

  • 🎟️ Weekly Prize Drawings: Each C Card earned serves as an entry into weekly school-wide prize drawings.

  • 🪙 Raven Coins: Students "caught BEING PROFESSIONAL" are rewarded on the spot with custom Raven Coins.

The goal of this initiative goes beyond positive reinforcement in the classroom. By intentionally cultivating these daily habits, Innovation High School ensures students graduate with the character, mindset, and real-world skills needed to excel in whatever comes next.
