At Innovation High School, learning is defined by mastery rather than traditional classroom seat time. Driven by the core mission "Own Your Education. Design Your Future," IHS provides a flexible daily structure built around two core blocks: Raven Time and Free Flow. This innovative approach emphasizes freedom with purpose, accountability with support, and the opportunity to accelerate learning based on individual progress.
The Daily Cycle: Plan, Execute, Check
The IHS morning structure follows a clear three-step daily cycle designed to build independence, accountability, and time-management skills:
1. Make the Plan | Raven Time (7:45 – 8:15 AM)
Each morning begins with dedicated planning time. Students meet one-on-one with their advisor to set expectations and organize their day. During this time, students:
Review progress using their Student Tracker.
Identify priorities and build a daily to-do list.
Set goals, time-block their schedule, and identify needed resources.
Work asynchronously on Franklin Covey Life-Ready Leadership micro-credentials while waiting for their advisor conference.
2. Execute the Plan | Free Flow (8:15 – 10:50 AM)
With their daily objectives established, students move into Free Flow to complete their work. During this block, students:
Work in the learning environment that best suits their study style.
Focus on specific subjects for as long as needed to master the material.
Self-advocate and seek assistance when needed.
Demonstrate subject mastery and accelerate through coursework at their own pace.
3. Check the Plan | Raven Time (10:50 – 11:00 AM)
Before lunch, students check back in with their advisor to evaluate their progress:
Goals Accomplished: Students who complete their planned goals celebrate their success and proceed to lunch.
Working Lunch Support: If goals are not yet met, students are provided with extra support rather than penalties. They report to Working Lunch, where Student Advocates and Math Tutors are available to offer guided assistance and extra time.
Core Pillars of the IHS Experience
Personalized Learning & Acceleration
By removing rigid seat-time constraints, IHS allows students to progress as quickly as they demonstrate understanding of the course content. This ensures that learning remains dynamic and personalized to each student's capabilities.
Dedicated Mentorship
The foundation of Raven Time lies in individual mentorship. Advisors build year-long relationships with their students, serving as personal coaches who guide them in self-advocacy, goal setting, and taking full ownership of their academic path.
Professional Standards
To prepare students for future success, IHS operates under one overarching rule: Be Professional. This standard applies across three key areas:
Conduct: Manage time effectively and carry out daily plans.
Communication: Practice self-advocacy, ask thoughtful questions, and maintain professional interactions.
Creation: Deliver high-quality work and take pride in academic growth.
At Innovation High School, time is flexible, but learning is not. By empowering students to make the plan, execute the plan, and check the plan, IHS equips every student to take ownership of their future.
