Weber School District high schoolers will see updated graduation requirements beginning with upcoming graduating cohorts, aligning district policy with new Utah State Board of Education (USBE) rules and Utah Code R277-700. The updated credit framework reflects the district's block scheduling and aims to better prepare students for post-secondary education and career pathways.
Under the updated guidelines, total credit expectations will transition over the coming school years to offer students expanded elective and foundational learning options.
Key Cohort Changes
SY26-27 & SY27-28 Cohorts: Students must earn 27.0 total credits to graduate with a neighborhood high school diploma. Requirements for these cohorts include 3.0 credits in Social Studies and 8.5 Elective credits.
SY28-29 & SY29-30 Cohorts: Total required credits increase to 28.0 credits. This overall credit increase is driven directly by paired adjustments in two key areas: Social Studies increases from 3.0 to 3.5 credits (highlighted by a full 1.0 credit course in American Constitutional Government & Citizenship), and Elective credits increase from 8.5 to 9.0 credits.

Important Policy Notes
The 3.5 Social Studies credit adjustment takes effect in the 2026–27 school year specifically for 9th and 10th-grade students, pairing alongside elective coursework to give students more opportunity to customize their educational paths. Additionally, in accordance with Utah Board Rule R277-700-6, high school credits may not be used to replace middle school educational requirements.
